Why you’ll love this project
It’s also totally a beginner friendly project and great addition for all your upcoming social gatherings. I refreshed the paint and painted the molding black then used some tulle to make the front look like a gift box with a bow. If you’re not into bows, you can also just add garland or a wreath! It’s totally up to you!
- Simple Build: This portable bar is easy to build with just a few simple materials and tools.
- Great for Beginners: The plywood and piano hinges are the basics, the rest is just making it look good.
- Versatile: Use it for any holiday party, birthday party, or other event in the future by just changing up the decorations!
- Foldable: This is the perfect bar to build if you want to be able to put it up, take it down, and store it easily.

Variations/ Adaptations
Add wheels: By adding castor wheels to the bottom of this foldable bar, you will make it even easier to move from place to place and get it into storage.
Use a different type of wood: Not into plywood? That’s okay! You can build this folding mobile bar using any wood that you like, even pallets or old barn doors.
Change the colors: I chose a simple black and white, but feel free to pick any paint color that works for you.
Change the theme: I originally made this diy bar for my birthday party, but then repurposed the decorations for our Christmas party this year! You could also add decorations for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Easter, or just a fun event you plan to host!
How to Make A Foldable DIY Mobile Bar
- Paint the plywood boards the color you want them and allow them to dry. do the same for the trim pieces.
- Attach the painted trim pieces in a rectangular shape in the center of the front board using finishing nails or glue (I used wood glue).
- Attach two piano hinges to what will be the inside of the side wall and the font wall of the mobile bar using screws and a power drill (Image Below).
- Do the same to the other side (Image Below).
3. Once the sides and front are all attached, stand the mobile bar up and attach whatever decoration you wish to add to the bar (Image Below).
***I purchased about 11-12 yards of red tulle from fabric store. You can also find at Hobby Lobby. Typically, its anywhere from $1-1.50 a yard. If you can get sparkly tulle, that’s even better. I used the tulle to add a strip of fabric vertically down the center then horizontally. I attached the fabric to the inside of bar using push pins.
4. For the bar top, I cut a piece of wood and added 1×2” trim around the panel to give it a finished look. I did miter cuts to join them but you don’t have to (Image Below).
Tips for the best result
- I also decided to add a rhinestone applique for a little razzle dazzle using my hot glue gun. Then I attached the bow using push pins.
- Don’t overthink it. This is a simple project with loads of potential for your future events.
- If you’re not into bows, you can also just add garland or a wreath.
Ways to make this project even easier
- Have the home improvement store make all your cuts while you are there.
- There isn’t much else to put here because this project is so simple already!
