If you’ve been around awhile, you know how much I love wallpaper! If I could add wallpaper to every room in my house, I probably would haha. Now my husband being on board for that is a different story lol.
So let’s get into these hacks. Here are some of my favorite wallpaper hacks that are great to do to really elevate your space and give it a professional look.
Creative Ways to Use Wallpaper
Whether you are trying to figure out what to do with leftover wallpaper or you are just looking for some creative wallpaper decor ideas, I find that these ten DIY wallpaper ideas can make your home look fun and professional while imparting a bit of personality.
#1 Cover the light switch plate & outlet covers

For this one, it’s best to get the really cheap covers because they usually are flat with no indentations. Here’s a link to one. I used this technique when wallpapering my laundry room and as it turns out, you can barely tell the light switches are there.
#2 Line Drawers and Shelves
I find that many of the drawer liners on the market are basic and boring. Instead, I used some of my leftover wallpaper for a pretty and durable drawer liner. It is much more my taste.
#3 Give Furniture an upgrade
I have seen this done where people will wallpaper just an inset on a cabinet or another price of furniture with a textured wallpaper. I did something similar when I built my Tilt-Out Laundry Hamper, but could easily have used wallpaper.
#4 Wallpaper Coat Hooks
another way I used wallpaper in my laundry room was to cover a set of coat hooks. It made the hooks look like they were mounted right on top of the wallpaper. You can see that hack here.
#5 Create a Temporary Backsplash
If you are not wanting to put the time and effort into tiling your backsplash, a great option is to wallpaper it instead. Not only is it quick and affordable, but you can also remove it easily when you decided to to tile.
#6 Accent Your Ceiling

A new and fun way to decorate with wallpaper is on the ceiling. I wish I would have thought of this when doing my girls’ room because a ceiling with a blue sky and clouds would have really completed the look of the girly room I designed for them.
#7 Create Wall Decals
If you want to get really creative, you can use an Exacto knife to cut images out of a wallpaper design and use them as individual decals on the wall. It is a fun way to accent the walls without putting all the wallpaper up.
#9 Create Murals
I did this in my son’s Black Panther room and it turned out fantastic. All I had to do was wallpaper one wall behind his bed with Marvel Comics Wallpaper. It saved me money and turned out great!
#10 Outline a Headboard
A really creative way to create the illusion of a headboard is to wallpaper behind the bed where a headboard would be. This creates the look without the price tag of buying an actual headboard. Plus you can change it easily with a different wallpaper design.
Which of these ideas would you try?
