Fall 2020 One Room Challenge – Week 1

Woohoo! I’m officially apart of the One Room Challenge! And if you are wondering exactly what this challenge is all about….don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. It wasn’t that long ago that I was unaware of what the infamous hashtag, #oneroomchallenge was all about either.

The One Room Challenge (ORC) is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.  In addition to the feature designers, the ORC is open to anyone wanting to participate. I’ve been wanting to participate since last year, but I always seemed to miss it. But not this time around! Guest participants will blog & post every Thursday over the next 6 weeks about our design process.

The lucky room receiving a transformation will be…..our basement! If you follow me on IG, you may know that our basement recently flooded and we had to pull up the carpet. We recently put down new vinyl flooring and now I have a blank slate!

Today, I’m sharing some of my design plan. This incorporates the first half of the room….the seating area. The back half of the room will be the play space for the kids. Our basement is very small, 335 sq ft to be exact, so it’s imperative I maximize every inch of space!

For this section of the room, I’ll be using our existing modular sofa from Ikea, but everything else will be new. Me & the hubs will be building the tv entertainment stand and I may make the coffee table…not sure yet! I’ll also be showing you how to create DIY framed posters as well. I can’t wait to share the process with you guys!

Thanks for following along and make sure you follow me on Instagram too! @onehandymomma 🙂
